Welcome to the Smeeton Westerby Village Web Site.
About Smeeton Westerby
The picturesque village of Smeeton Westerby was once divided into the two separate hamlets of Smeeton and Westerby. The boundary believed to marked by two white stones next to Westerby House
Smeeton Westerby doesn't have any shops of it's own but it does have a traditional village pub, a village hall, a parish church plus several stables and farms. Originally it was a mainly farming village which also had several pubs, a shop, a butchers and a blacksmiths - the old blacksmith cottage is a very pretty cottage opposite Debdale Lane.
Location
The narrow village sits in gently rolling Leicestershire countryside between Kibworth Beauchamp and Saddington. It is 10 miles south east of Leicester and about six miles from the nearest market town and railway station at Market Harborough.
Shopping
The nearest shops are a 10-15 minute walk away in Kibworth Beauchamp. This excellent shopping centre includes a post office, supermarket, flower shop, beauticians, health centre, newsagents, estate agents, hardware store, several takeaways, cafes, restaurants and pubs. There was a railway station but this closed in 1968.
Despite It's close proximity to the very popular village of Kibworth Beauchamp it still retains it own identity and character. This is probably because, as it is in a conservation area, there has been little change to the size of the village for some time.
Smeeton Westerby Open Gardens
The Smeeton Westerby Open Gardens weekend took place on the wet and very windy weekend of 21st-22nd June 2008. There were 15 gardens open to the public ranging from the tiny to the very large.

Smeeton Westerby During Lockdown
A Poem by Eve Munsey
A long held dream to sail the world
See rich tapestries of life unfurled
A wide expanse of ocean, crossed in style
The cruise ship devouring each nautical mile. The elegant vessel glides through the waves
Peaceful ambiance the whole world craves.
Whales and dolphins some might discern
A roadway on high seas left by her stern.Alas, as yet this is just a dream
Lockdown presents a dismal theme.
Yet new world order I’ll be free one day
Virus beaten. Oldies - now time to play.
